Honestly, fuck the conversation checklist. Throw it all out the window and just do it. Small talk almost always subtle invitations to join in. Say how the other person's statement makes you feel. Embarrassed, proud, or flattered. Ryan Gosling "Can I hug you? I just think you're the best." Don't answer questions literally. It's very short. Kanye West stalled the conversation until he used Jimmy Kimmel (Live)'s questions to talk about something else. You need to not answer the questions you are asked sometimes. Or answer a more interesting question being asked. I think people focus too much on the past. Boring, abrupt literal answers aren't interesting. Pause to create periodic opt in points for the audience. Or attentive body language. Allow stories to be interrupted when someone joins the group. The goal is to arrive at a conversational topic both of you care about you have to steer the conversations into topics with deeper purpose. H
