It must be so weird to be in a cult and not realize you're in a cult. Eddie Huang is right.

One thing I have come across that fits into that, the difference between an employee and an entrepreneur is that an employee want security (building up a resume, having a constant paycheck etc..) while an entrepreneur or a freelancer want freedom and happiness (not having specific working hours, not being told what to do, being able to work remotely, having time for their family and friends etc..). The schooling system is designed to employees not entrepreneurs even less, freelancers...

Must be nice to live in the TedX bubble of zero adult responsibilities. This speech made me think of the following movie quote from Rounders:
"I'm not playing for the thrill of...victory here. I owe rent, alimony, child support. I play for money. My kids eat. I got stones enough not to chase cards, action...or...pipe dreams of winning the World Series on ESPN."

That defeatist attitude is precisely what he was talking about when he said that 80% of people encourage complacency by telling you that its impossible - whatever it is.
Buddy, you have lost the race before you even started it. Enjoy you life of unfulfilling mediocracy.
· in reply to bendogood1722
It's not a simple matter of defeatism though. On some level, as much as we say "oh, you can just get up and walk away!", you can't always. When there are people who depend on you to keep food on their plates and a roof over their heads, then having a job is simply the most important part of the day. Attacking the people who are in those situations is wrong too, and does no good for the world. If you CAN be a part of the 20% of movers and doers, then you should be. If you can't, don't feel bad.

Why should that matter?? God people like you that talk about how we need to stop separation by pointing out difference.. and women aren't smarter than men. Your insane. They're about equal but men for the most part get better throughout history. Name me a female inventor or scientist?? Marie Curie is the only one i can think of.
Its silly for you to say that. Any smart human being would know that women weren't as present/successful in history as men because they were suppressed (and not allowed to get the same education as men.) Also women that did indeed try were often rejected and/or ignored. Look at the gender gap in history and get educated.
And about that Marie Curie thing, there were a lot of other successful female scientists. The problem is that they weren't given proper credit for their discoveries. Take Nettie Stevens, she discovered the Y chromosome, which is apparently the only one you have.

Sadly, schools is where it all starts....schools mess with our instrinsic motivation big time...and leaves us clueless as to what we really want. we are then geared towards making money, buying fancy stuff...cars, houses...vacation...but that still does not do it, does it? Fixing schools is the first step....then comes business. In anycase most things would fall in place once schools are fixed.

Sam Harris vs. Oxford grad student
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuuTOpZxwRk
Quoting a poor definition is not the same as disproving Harris' claims here. He is not using common sense as anything other than a demonstration of the fact that many values are common among us and there are scientific reasons why they are. Morality has been demonstrated to be innate to a certain extent, but the more advanced aspects of it come through reasoning and science. Harris does not claim that science alone does this, only that science is a tool in it. Your arguments are poor.

This shermer person must be the one. the chosen one of which we should all believe regardless of what we think. He has all the tools and knowledge of life, the universe and all it contains.
Does he have a ministry, church or cult following??? Not
No, but he has an established career contributing to science. Believe it or not you can admire someone's intellect and insight without making a church about it. It's great. He holds opinions that most PHD's hold. We should appreciate these people, because they aren't just some guys with opinions, they are on the frontlines of human knowledge, unlike you. If any of what he said in this video unsettles you...welcome to science and reason.

If they live in glass houses they should expect stones to be thrown.
Maybe the church analogy was a bit raw and
Your right I'm not a person with such a revered education as others but I'm not stupid and each person has his or her own mind.
These are not opinions he's posting, there his beliefs and the rest of the sheep around this gullible world follow such men.
I'm saying that I have an open mind and can make my own choices.
This man ridicules anyone who thinks differently to him, then every
no he ridicules all that are not thinking rationally but believe unconditionally. He is saying following the evidence and logic thought instead of hearsay and bronze age ramblings/myths collected in a book. A rational persons mind is flexible and willing to adapt whereas the believer 's mind is set in (the) stone (age).
People say there is a RACE problem. People say this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY and ONLY into White countries.
People say the only solution to the RACE problem is if ALL and ONLY White countries "assimilate," i.e., intermarry, with all those non-Whites.
But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against White people, Anti-Whites agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionje ws.
Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.
I'll take it from your very thinly disguised white supremacy that you are not aware that, biologically, race does not exist. Skin color is an environmental adaptation to UV exposure and has no bearing on the phenotype of an individual. In fact, discrimination based on skin color is a phenomenon unique to colonial North America and is not generally expressed in other cultures. Like it or not, your genetics link you to an African ancestry and to say otherwise is to persist in delusion.

- This comment has received too many negative votesCelsius is a more reliable and official temperature reading... and to be honest, the English are at least 20 times smarter than the American. Who found America? who aided you in over 3 wars after you pussies fled? who invented the car and bicycle? who was it that discovered electricity? who was it that conquered over 2/3 of the world? who was it that helped you to colonize in Newfoundland? without us, my yank friend, you would not be alive right now. you are why everybody hates Americans.· in reply to TheBmr12626
- This comment has received too many negative votesI love how you spew facts out of your ass. The Germans made the first automobile and Henry Ford made the first mass production assembly line of them. If i recall, we saved the whole goddamn world in WWII. You would be speaking German without us. Thomas Edison was an American Inventor that made more than half the shit you use every day. We also created the Internet. you know, the thing you're using right now? We can talk history all day, but who is the superpower of the world today? I thought so.· in reply to skilledplayer33
- This comment has received too many negative voteswho was it that is a descendant of the British? i thought so. you would be speaking with an English accent if you traitors hadn't fought us after we helped you colonize in Newfoundland, then you assholes got slaves from Africa & used them to harvest and build when you had us. you guys are only "superior" because you are LUCKY to have so much natural goods that everyone wants to buy which is why you are so rich. although, you are like 6 billion dollars in debt because of your dumb ass government· in reply to TheBmr12626
- Helped us? haha, you don't read much do you? The colonists were treated like shit and were taxed nonstop. Don't think that the British had nothing to do with the slave trade. Ever heard of the triangular trade? Americans would get the slaves, but the British would receive all of the money from it. Both sides of the slave trade are just as bad. Once again you are speaking of the past. We are the most powerful country in the world. Who is going to try and collect the debt from us anyway? No one.· in reply to skilledplayer33
- u do realize that the Saudi Arabian economy could crush your country at any moment they want to. They play a major role in supplying you with money and goods you need, and anyone can cut you off and take your money at anytime, you just wait til ur out of goods and you will be reduced to nothing more than shit on my shoe my friend. You are the ones who took the slaves so you are ones who started it. WE conquered. You stole and betrayed. WE are victorious and proud. You are lucky thieving cowards.· in reply to TheBmr12626

Use your favorite search engine (and I don't mean bing) to search Nikola Tesla/free energy and what happened between Tesla and J.P. Morgan...then sit here and tell me how great capitalism is again. The only way to fix capitalism is get rid of it. Anyone who thinks capitalism benefits the whole of humanity is delusional.

Crony capitalism is capitalism. Anything and everything is up for sale, including the government. That's what corporate lobbying is in Washington D.C.

While i don't want to talk down on his efforts, fake-positivity, and that includes a fake-friendly (smiling) persona is not what leads to emotional health. Now if you're a naturally happy person, maybe a subtle increase in smiling might(!) help, but that's not a state that average population can work with as a starting point.
Emotional integration, feeling one's feelings, not being caught up in muscular tensions & thoughts toward outward appearance are a more realistic approach.
An wise old man was talking to a boy and said, " There are two wolves always fighting inside me. One is filled with anger, hate, jealousy, shame and lies. The other wolf is filled with love, joy, truth and peace. This battle rages inside of you on inside of you and all men" The boy thought for a moment and asked " Which wolf will win?"
The old man answered "The one you feed"

Wow, this really touches upon sensitive subjects and I respect this man for getting the guts and understanding to come up with this speech. It made me realize about my own flawed perspective. I want to be as open-minded and understanding as I possibly can as a person, and my feelings may be raw at some points, and empathy can be hard. But to understand isn't agreeing. I believe it cures that helpless fear which leads to hate. To not judge a whole group by the looks because of one chain of hate.

I'm sorry, but the first 10 minutes are old hat! We have learned every single sentence already 20 years ago (even before David was born) - except David, who presents them as if they were something revolutionary and new, a big break-through that came to him and EwB! David, why didn't you educate yourself first from those who have been in business for many years? I don't understand how this fits into the TED series...

There are probably two kind of people in the aid industry: people like stonelli00 that were either born as a perfect human being knowing everything what is right or perfectly educated to be afraid of and to avoid making mistakes; or people like David, that have the courage to admit their mistakes and that are able to learn something from them.
